Hotel Marincanto Wedding Videographer — Positano, Amalfi Coast
Hotel Marincanto sits on Via Cristoforo Colombo, on the upper road above Positano, about ten minutes on foot from the centre. It is a four-star hotel with an eighteenth-century villa inside the property, an infinity pool, a lemon terrace and a private beach reached by a stone staircase of more than two hundred steps. For a wedding or an elopement it offers something most Positano venues do not: a terrace where the entire town is the backdrop, and a way down to the sea that does not involve the public road.
I live on this coast and film here regularly. Below is a film shot at the Marincanto in June 2026, followed by what a videographer actually needs to know about the place.
A private elopement at Hotel Marincanto, 17 June 2026. Photography by Maison Pestea (Instagram). The ten-minute film of the same day is on the full story of this elopement.
The spaces
Terrazza dei Limoni
The hotel’s lemon terrace, which it lists for up to fifty people. It is the space most ceremonies and cocktail hours happen on, and the reason the Marincanto photographs and films the way it does: lemon trees on one side, an unobstructed view of Positano stacked up the cliff on the other. Visually it is generous — the trees give depth that a bare terrace never has, and the town behind is far enough away to hold focus.
Villa Incanto
An eighteenth-century villa within the property, offered for ten to fifty guests. It is the wet-weather answer and the dinner answer, and it means a wedding at the Marincanto does not have to leave the property between ceremony and reception — which on the Amalfi Coast, where moving fifty people between two villages can take an hour, is worth more than it sounds.
Marincanto’s beach
The private beach club sits at the bottom of the staircase. It is a genuine asset for photography and film — a stretch of shoreline without the crowds of the Spiaggia Grande — but treat the descent as a scheduled item, not a stroll. Two hundred steps in a dress, in June, is a fifteen-to-twenty minute operation and it should happen once, at the end of the day, not twice.

Filming at the Marincanto: what the venue actually does to a film
The backdrop is brighter than you are
Positano faces the terraces, and in the middle of the day the town is a wall of white and ochre in full sun while the couple standing in front of it are not. Expose for the couple and the town blows out; expose for the town and the couple go dark. This is the single technical fact that separates a good Marincanto film from a disappointing one, and it is solved by scheduling — a ceremony in the second half of the afternoon, not at two o’clock — not by fixing it afterwards.

Sound on a terrace above a road
The terraces sit above Via Cristoforo Colombo, which carries traffic, and in summer there are boats below. Vows on a terrace need lavalier microphones on both people and a recorder on the celebrant — a camera-mounted microphone will give you scooters. When there is live music, as there was here with a violinist, it is worth a separate feed: a live instrument recorded properly is the difference between a film with a soundtrack and a film with a song stuck on top of it.

Drone
Aerial footage over the built-up centre of Positano is regulated in Italy and is not something to promise casually — flying over people and inhabited areas requires the appropriate authorisation. The coastline and the water off the hotel are a different situation, and that is where the aerials in the film above come from. If a supplier tells you they will simply fly a drone over Positano on your wedding day, ask to see their paperwork.

A realistic elopement timeline at Hotel Marincanto
This is close to how the June 2026 day ran, and it is the shape I would recommend to anyone planning a two-person wedding here.
- Getting ready in the suite — allow two hours if you are both preparing in the same room and do not want to see each other. It takes longer than it sounds.
- Ceremony on the terrace — late afternoon. Twenty to thirty minutes with a celebrant and vows.
- Cake and photographs on the terrace — thirty minutes, while the light is still on the town.
- Down into Positano — forty minutes, not fifteen. Steps, lanes and people.
- Boat — an hour offshore. The most valuable hour of the day and the only guaranteed privacy in Positano in summer.
- Back on the beach — the last of the direct light.
Total, from first shot to last: around seven hours. My elopement coverage starts at five, and a day built like the one above needs more than five.

Getting married at the Marincanto: legal or symbolic
The hotel’s own wedding offer is built around symbolic ceremonies — intimate ceremonies for up to twenty people, symbolic ceremonies with cocktails for ten to fifty, and receptions in the villa. Most international couples marry legally at home and hold the ceremony here with a celebrant, which is what happened in the film above.
If you want the civil ceremony to be legally binding and performed in Positano, it takes place at the Comune, not at the hotel. Positano marries couples on the municipal terrace over the coast, with a majolica-floored hall as the wet-weather room. At the time of writing the non-resident fee is around €1,000 on a weekday and €1,800 on a Saturday, with slots roughly 10:00–20:00 Monday to Friday and 10:00–18:00 on Saturday. Non-Italians also need a Nulla Osta from their consulate in Italy. Confirm current fees and dates with the Comune or your planner — they change.
Questions I get asked about weddings at Hotel Marincanto
How many guests can the Marincanto hold?
The hotel lists its lemon terrace and its villa for up to fifty people. It is not a two-hundred-guest venue and it is not trying to be one — it works for elopements, for a dozen people, and for a small wedding up to around fifty.
Can you be legally married at the hotel?
The hotel’s wedding offer is framed around symbolic ceremonies. A legally binding civil ceremony in Positano takes place at the Comune. Many couples do both on the same trip.
Is the beach worth building into the day?
Yes, once, at the end. More than two hundred steps down means you do not come back up in the dress. Plan it as a one-way leg with transport arranged from the bottom, or replace it with a boat from the Spiaggia Grande, which is what I would suggest for most couples.
What time should the ceremony be?
Late afternoon, so the town behind you is not in hard sun. On a June date that means the second half of the afternoon; in September, earlier. This single decision does more for the film than any equipment choice.
Do you deliver one film or two?
For elopements, two: a highlights film of around three minutes, and a long-form film that follows the day. They are cut separately from the same material. Both of the films from this wedding are linked on this page and on the full write-up of the day.
Filming your wedding at Hotel Marincanto
I am based on the Sorrento–Amalfi coast, not flying in for the weekend, which means I know what the light does here in every month and I am not learning the staircase on your wedding day. If you are considering the Marincanto, or Positano generally, these will help:
- Elopement videographer in Positano
- Wedding videographer in Positano
- Wedding videographer on the Amalfi Coast
- An elopement at Hotel Marincanto — the full film and the day in detail
