Jenna and Mike, a Borgo Lucignanello wedding in Tuscany, embrace on an old stone staircase

In the middle of May, Jenna and Mike brought the people they love to one of the most beautiful corners of Tuscany — Borgo Lucignanello, a private medieval hamlet in the heart of the Val d’Orcia — and turned a wedding into four unforgettable days.

A hamlet all to themselves

Borgo Lucignanello isn’t a venue so much as an entire village: a cluster of honey-coloured stone houses perched above the rolling hills, vineyards and cypress avenues of the Val d’Orcia. For their celebration Jenna and Mike had the whole borgo to themselves — and, for the occasion, its ancient lanes were even closed to traffic, so the streets belonged only to them and their guests. There’s something rare about that kind of stillness: no cars, no crowds, just an old Tuscan village wrapped around one family’s most important day.

It began the night before

A destination wedding at its best is never a single day, and this was no exception. The weekend opened with a welcome party the evening before, as guests arrived from England and settled into the borgo under a warm Tuscan sky — the first of many moments together over a long weekend in the hills.

The ceremony

Jenna and Mike exchanged vows outdoors, framed by a lush arch of white flowers set against centuries-old brick, the Val d’Orcia countryside stretching out beyond. Led by their celebrant, it was personal and unhurried — the kind of ceremony where you feel every word.

Down the ancient lanes

Then came one of the images I’ll remember most: Jenna and Mike sweeping out through the borgo in a vintage white Alfa Romeo Spider, the old stone streets lined with cheering guests. With the village closed to traffic, that drive belonged entirely to them.

Dinner under glass

As the light softened, the party moved to a crystal glass marquee dressed with white florals and candlelight, the borgo glowing behind the glass. With a live band carrying the night, dinner turned into dancing and the celebration stretched well into the Tuscan evening.

One more day by the pool

And still it wasn’t over. The following day everyone gathered again for a relaxed pool party — a final, sun-soaked chapter before the goodbyes, and proof that the best destination weddings give everyone the gift of time together.
