Bellevue Syrene Wedding Videographer
Bellevue Syrene stands on Piazza della Vittoria, at the point where Sorrento stops and the ground drops away to the sea. I am Ivan Caiazza, a wedding videographer based on this coast, and of all the hotels in town this is the one where the landscape does the most work for a camera.
A Hotel With an Unusually Long Memory
Most hotels on this coast tell you they are historic. This one has the dates. The building was designed in 1750 as a private residence, raised on the foundations of a Roman villa, and it opened as a hotel in 1820 — which is why the name you see today is Bellevue Syrene 1820. There is still a Roman cave in the rock beneath it.
That matters for a film in a practical way rather than a romantic one. The interiors were not designed to look like a wedding venue: they are rooms in an old house, with the proportions and the shadows of one. Footage shot inside here does not look like footage shot inside a hotel.
What This Venue Gives a Film
The edge
The terrace does not simply have a view — it has a drop. The ground falls away immediately to the water, which means a wide shot has genuine depth instead of a flat painted backdrop behind the couple. Very few venues in Sorrento give you that, and it is the single strongest reason to film here.
Vesuvius
You are looking north-west across the Gulf of Naples, with Vesuvius drawing the far shore. It is the most recognisable horizon in southern Italy, and it means a single wide frame tells anyone watching exactly where your wedding happened, with no caption needed.
The light
Because the terrace faces open water rather than sitting under a cliff, it keeps usable light far later in the afternoon than the Amalfi Coast venues forty minutes down the road. Between May and early August the sun actually sets over the water in front of you. From late September onward it goes down behind the peninsula instead — still beautiful, but a different picture, and worth knowing before you fix a ceremony time.
The beach below
There is a private beach at the bottom of the rock. It is the natural place for the twenty minutes of portraits that do not look like everyone else’s, because almost nobody thinks to go down there on the day.
The Constraint Worth Knowing
The thing that makes Bellevue Syrene beautiful is also its limit. It is built on a clifftop in the middle of a town, so the space is finite. It suits an elegant wedding of moderate size, and it rewards couples who want the day to feel contained rather than sprawling. If your guest list runs well past a hundred, ask the hotel very specifically where that many people eat when it rains, and compare the answer with the larger properties above the town.

How a Wedding Day Runs Here
The shape that works: preparation in the rooms during the early afternoon, when the light coming off the water into a room on this side of the building is as good as it gets anywhere in Sorrento. Ceremony on the terrace roughly two hours before sunset. Aperitivo along the edge while the light turns. Dinner, speeches and dancing in the same place, because in a hotel this size nothing has to move.
Ceremonies here are symbolic. A legally binding Italian ceremony has to be celebrated by the Comune at one of its licensed locations — the Chiostro di San Francesco or Villa Fiorentino, both a short walk away in the centre of Sorrento. Plenty of couples do the civil ceremony in the cloister in the morning and come back here for the rest of the day, and that combination films very well: two completely different rooms in the same story.
What Time to Start
About two hours before sunset. Approximate sunset in Sorrento, by month:
- May — 19:55 to 20:25 → ceremony around 18:00
- June — 20:25 to 20:35 → ceremony around 18:30
- July — 20:35 back to 20:20 → ceremony around 18:20
- August — 20:20 to 19:35 → ceremony around 17:45
- September — 19:35 to 18:45 → ceremony around 17:00
- October — 18:45 to 18:00, then the clocks change and it drops to about 17:00 → ceremony around 16:00
Practical Notes
- Where it is. Piazza della Vittoria, in the centre of Sorrento, a few minutes on foot from Corso Italia and from the Chiostro di San Francesco.
- Getting there. Naples Capodichino is about an hour and a half by private transfer, longer in August. Salerno is roughly the same. There is no train to Sorrento worth taking on a wedding day.
- Capri. The Marina Piccola is below the hotel, and Capri is about twenty-five minutes by hydrofoil — which makes the day before or the day after genuinely easy to fill for guests.
- Drones. Italian rules restrict flying over built-up areas and over people, and this hotel sits inside the town. Over open water, from a boat, away from the buildings, it works.
What You Receive
The film
A cinematic edit of the day, cut to music, colour graded and delivered in 4K.
The ceremony and the speeches, in full
Recorded with dedicated audio on the celebrant and on the groom, separately from the camera. On a terrace this exposed it is not optional: there is wind off the gulf most afternoons and the sea directly below, and vows recorded on a camera microphone from six metres away are unusable. You receive these complete and unedited alongside the main film.
Delivery
A sneak peek within three weeks. The full film between six and twelve weeks depending on the package, delivered as downloadable files with a link that stays live long enough for you to save everything properly.
Bellevue Syrene Wedding Videographer — FAQ
Have you filmed a wedding at Bellevue Syrene?
Yes. The film at the top of this page was shot there. I am based on this coast and Sorrento is twenty minutes from home, so I know the building rather than just the brochure.
Can you get legally married at Bellevue Syrene?
No. Ceremonies at the hotel are symbolic. A legally binding Italian ceremony has to be celebrated by the Comune at one of its licensed locations, the nearest being the Chiostro di San Francesco and Villa Fiorentino, both within walking distance. For non-resident couples the Comune publishes 750 euro for a weekday morning, 1,000 for a weekday afternoon and 1,200 at the weekend, with lower rates between 15 November and 15 March.
What time should the ceremony start?
About two hours before sunset: roughly 18:30 in June, 17:00 in mid-September, 16:00 in mid-October. The terrace faces open water rather than sitting under a cliff, so it keeps usable light later than the Amalfi Coast venues further along.
Can you see the sunset over the sea from the terrace?
Between May and early August, yes: the sun sets to the north-west, which from Sorrento is straight out across the Bay of Naples. From late September onwards it goes down behind the peninsula instead. If a sunset over the water matters to you, that narrows the date.
How many hours of coverage do we need?
Eight to ten hours covers preparation in the rooms, the ceremony on the terrace, aperitivo, dinner and the start of the dancing. Add about two hours if you hold a civil ceremony at the Chiostro di San Francesco first and move back afterwards.
What happens if it rains?
The interiors carry the day, and they are real rooms in an old building rather than a marquee. Sorrento under cloud films better than people expect: the stone darkens and the colours saturate. Agree the covered alternative when you book rather than on the morning.
Is Bellevue Syrene big enough for our guest list?
It suits an elegant wedding of moderate size. It is built on a clifftop inside a town, so the space is finite. If your list runs well past a hundred, ask the hotel specifically where that many people eat when it rains and compare the answer with the larger properties above the town.
Do you work alongside our photographer?
Always. I speak to the photographer before the day so we are not competing for the same position. On a terrace where the good angles are few and the drop is immediate, that conversation is not optional. I work with an assistant on most weddings; for very small celebrations, or if you ask to be left alone, I film alone.
Do you film elsewhere in Sorrento and on the coast?
Yes. Villa Antiche Mura, Villa Silvana, the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria and across Positano, Ravello and the whole Amalfi Coast, as well as Tuscany, Lake Como and Puglia.
Can we get the raw footage?
Yes, agreed before the wedding rather than after. One thing to know: the raw files are filmed in a flat, desaturated profile designed for grading, so they will not look like the finished film.
Planning a Wedding at Bellevue Syrene?
Tell me the date you are holding and I will tell you what the light does that week, how the day would realistically run, and what I would change about the timeline. If another venue in Sorrento would give you a better film for what you want, I will say that too.
