Antica Fattoria di Paterno Wedding Videographer
Emily and Joseph travelled from the United States to marry at Antica Fattoria di Paterno, in the hills south of Florence, on one of those Tuscan summer days when the heat sits still over the fields and the light does not soften until evening. As their Antica Fattoria di Paterno wedding videographer, I filmed a day that was elegant without ever feeling formal — and that stayed outdoors from the ceremony to the last course of dinner.
What stays with me from that day is the sound of it: live music carrying across the ceremony, the voice of Joseph’s father as he married them himself, and the noise a room makes when the first dance arrives a few minutes earlier than anyone expected.
The Setting — An Iconic Tuscan Estate
Antica Fattoria di Paterno is a working Tuscan estate, and its defining quality is space. The grounds open out in every direction — lawns, olive trees, long green slopes running down towards the hills — with room enough that a wedding is never pushed into a corner of it. For a film that space is the whole gift: there is always somewhere to stand back and let the landscape carry the frame.
Where the day happens
Emily and Joseph both got ready on the estate itself, in separate spaces. That is a genuine practical advantage here: no transfers, no hours lost in cars, and morning coverage that can move between the two without missing anything on either side.
The ceremony was held outdoors with the Tuscan hills open behind the couple — the kind of backdrop that needs no dressing at all. Aperitivo followed outside on the lawns, and dinner was served outdoors as well, so the celebration never moves indoors and never loses the landscape.
The light, hour by hour
In high summer the middle of the day here is bright and hard, and the heat is real. Emily and Joseph married on a very hot day, and that shapes everything — the timeline, the shade you plan for, how long you can reasonably ask guests to stand in the open.
The estate’s moment is sunset. As the sun drops behind the hills the whole valley turns gold and the light runs long and low across the grounds. If you are planning a wedding here, protect twenty minutes for the two of you at that hour. It is where the most beautiful frames of the entire film come from, and there is no other point in the day that can replace it.

A father as celebrant
Joseph’s father stood as celebrant and married them himself. It changes the register of a whole ceremony: the person speaking knows both of them, and everyone sitting in front of him can hear that he does. Emily and Joseph exchanged their vows there, facing the hills, with live music carrying between the readings.
Aperitivo, first dance, speeches
Aperitivo was outdoors on the lawns, guests spread across the grounds as the heat finally began to break. Then, instead of waiting for the usual moment late in the evening, Emily and Joseph took their first dance immediately before dinner was served. It worked: everyone was still together and still standing, and dinner began carried by that dance instead of trying to recover the energy hours later.
The speeches came during the meal, outdoors, and dinner ran on into the night under an open sky.
